Accommodation

Your accommodation is of course one of the most important aspects of your holiday. It is therefore wise to check out the possibilities early and think about what is important to you and your travel party during your stay. You can choose from a hotel, a hostel, a holiday home, campsite or cruise ship, and each one has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Go for luxury in a hotel

Of all the accommodation options, a hotel is often the most luxurious. But there is a lot of variety: you could choose a romantic five star hotel or a budget hotel chain. The main advantage of staying in a hotel is that you are fully catered for: your room is cleaned, your bed is made, the towels are changed whenever you want and your meals are usually covered. If you opt for an all-inclusive hotel, you can eat as much and as often as you want! However, it is the most expensive option and can mean that you spend a lot of time at the hotel. If you want to get out and about a bit more but still want to enjoy a hearty breakfast, then bed and breakfast or half board may be more suitable option.

Stay cheap and cheerful in a hostel

For travellers with a lower budget, staying in a hostel is always a good option. Hostel rooms usually only have very basic necessities, such as a bed and a locker, and you have to share the bathroom with a number of other travellers. Private rooms are often available, but you can even choose a room in a shared dormitory to make your stay even more economical. You can really save a lot of money if you’re willing to give up the luxury a little. Backpackers make frequent use of hostels, so it’s also a great chance to meet new people during your trip!

Hire a holiday home or villa

If you are travelling with a group, renting a holiday home is always a good option. Holiday homes can vary from a cottage for four people to large houses for twelve people or even more. Often the price per person is low, and there are enough facilities for everything you could need.

Go back to basics at a campsite

Many travellers choose to stay at a campsite as it is relatively cheap and offers a lot of freedom. You can bring your own tent, caravan or camper, or you can choose to hire one at the site. Again, you can save a lot of money by going back to basics, and many campsites have a social atmosphere, so it’s a great way to meet fellow travellers.

Cruise to your destination

Cruises are an increasingly popular way to travel. With a cruise, you can go worldwide and visit almost any country you want. People usually associate cruises with expense and luxury, but many cruises nowadays can be relatively inexpensive if you shop around. A huge advantage of cruises is that you can visit so many different countries and cities and have a permanent place to stay without. So you don’t have to unpack and repack your luggage several times during your holiday!
