South America

South America is the ultimate adventure land. As well as the awesome nature – from rainforests to salt flats and vast mountain regions – South America is home to some of the world’s most famous and jaw-dropping landmarks. Explore ancient mountaintop kingdoms and marvel at Christ the Redeemer and Mayan ruins.

1. Peru

Fascinating traditions lie around every country in Peru. Perhaps most famously, Machu Picchu is one of the last Inca cities remaining from the Peru’s rule by the Spanish until the 19th century. The impressive ruins of the city lie against a mountain, more than 2000 metres up in the clouds, making it one of the Seven Wonders of the World. There are, of course, many more reasons to visit Peru, one of which is Nazca, a desert plain in the south of Peru. The plain is covered with mysterious ancient lines and drawings, which have boggled the minds of locals and as well as travellers for centuries.

2. Chile

Beneath Peru sits Chile and like much of South America, it offers incredible natural landscapes, lively local cultures and a vibrant capital city. In particular, it is home to Patagonia, one of South America’s most rugged landscapes with its snow-capped mountains, ice glaciers and cool blue waters. Chile is no less than 4300km long and packed with national parks and beautiful landscapes, making it an ideal destination for backpackers.

3. Brazil

We simply cannot miss Brazil off from this list. Brazil is the largest country in South America and the fifth largest country in the world. Unsurprisingly, there is an endless list of things to see and do in this colossal country, including Christ the Redeemer, one of the Seven Wonders of the World that overlooks the entire city of Rio de Janeiro. Besides this, Brazil is best known for its world famous street parties and carnivals, pearl white beaches, the magical Amazon jungle and its vibrant football fever.
