#2 Catamaran Tours

As an island, one of the best ways to explore Menorca is from the sea! The island’s capital, Mahon, has the largest natural harbour in the Mediterranean and for centuries has been an important strategic port. During the 18th century the island frequently changed hands between the Spanish, French and British, which is reflected in the fortifications and other architectural elements of the island, such as sash windows. One of the best ways to explore this history and Mahon’s stunning coastline is a trip with Yellow Catamarans! You can enjoy a tour of the port and the Isla del Rey, a former British military hospital, and hear all about the history of the sites on the route. This includes Golden Farm where Lord Nelson stayed, La Mola Fortress and the quaint fishing town of Es Castell with its coves. You can also check out the sea life from the glass bottom of the boat! Take in some beautiful views and learn about the island’s history all in one trip.

#3 Hiking

There are plenty of ways to explore the wonderful scenery on Menorca, but one of the best ways is definitely by foot. You can explore at your own pace and choose the spots you most want to explore. The Camí de Cavalls trail allows you to do just that. This ancient trail started out as a defensive route in the 1330s when the king required the island’s settlers to patrol the island with armed horses to ensure its defence. It has now been restored and is part of the European network of long-distance footpaths. The trail is 185 km in total and is split into 20 stages, each taking roughly a day to complete. The route goes around the whole island and is well signposted. Stage 5 from Cala Tirant to Binimel Lá is one of the most picturesque parts of the route with some gorgeous unspoilt coastline to explore.
