Layover Activities to Beat the Boredom at London Heathrow

Layover’s can be frustrating, especially if you have a good few hours between your flights. There is only so much coffee you can drink and shopping you can do! Luckily there are lots of things you can do for a few hours near Heathrow Airport. There is no need to stay cooped up all day, with London just 15 minutes away and perhaps surprisingly some beautiful scenery to be enjoyed! Read on and discover how to beat your layover boredom.

#1 Take a bike tour

If you have 4 hours or more free, you can take a circular tour of the Royal Deer Park in Richmond and enjoy fresh air and wonderful nature. This is the largest Royal Park in London and has deer roaming free through the trees, meadows and along the river. The meeting point at Richmond Station is just a 20 minute taxi ride from Heathrow Airport or you can take the Piccadilly Lone to Turnham Green and change to the District Line to Richmond Station. #2 Head to London

With the Heathrow Express you can be at London Paddington in just 15 minutes from Terminal 2 & 3 and 20 minutes from Terminal 5. From Paddington you have plenty of options to explore some of the city’s best-known sights such as Hyde Park, Kensington Palace, Buckingham Palace, the Natural History Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum and so much more. Many of the museums have cloak rooms where you can leave your luggage for a small fee, leaving you free to explore unencumbered! Why spend hours in the airport when you can explore one of the world’s most exciting cities?

#3 Go to a farm

If you are travelling with children, why not go for a day out at Hounslow Urban Farm? There are cows, pigs, sheep, goats, llamas, guinea pigs, rabbits and even some more exotic animals, such as snakes and lizards. You can feed and pet the animals with daily events, such as Pig Meet & Greet and Owl Flying displays allowing you some closer interactions. The farm is easy to reach from Heathrow as it is only about 10 minutes away by bus or less by taxi. Make some new furry friends and escape the confines of the airport!  


#4 Head to a Theme Park

Just 15 to 20 minutes away by taxi you will find Thorpe Park Resort, a theme park with 30 different rides, attractions and events. It has some of the country’s most popular roller coasters! Stealth is the UK’s fastest roller coaster taking thrill seekers 205 feet at 80 mph in only 2.5 seconds. There is also the Swarm, a winged roller coaster and Saw, the world’s first horror themed roller coaster. You can find something for all ages at Thorpe Park and plenty of places to eat, drink and relax. If you book online in advance, it is possible to save up to 40%! Forget boredom and head to Thorpe Park for an exhilarating day out.
